Labrinyth Fans?

Freddy is trying to pawn off a coupla of Labriynth discs. I've heard of these guys, but never actually heard the music. I was under the impression that they were orchestral, flowery, power metal, with big sweeping choir choruses, female opera singers and whatnot. BNR Metal describes them as progressive metal from Italy. I heard a few clips on their website and I kinda like what I've heard. I dig progessive metal when it's done right, but I'm not big on symphonic stuff. Was my assement off? Am I being duped into thinking they're something they are not? Sound off before I make a big mistake.

What I have heard is just kind of generic power metal. Not bad, but nothing you and a couple of your buddies with a Casio and a drum machine couldn't knock out in a weekend recording session.

So they sound like Virgin Steele more or less.

For the record, Spec's assessment is pretty accurate... hence their residence on my trade list...

Well, I wanted some impartial opinions. Not that I don't trust you, of course, but I know for myself that everything I get rid of through trades is pure musical GOLD, I just don't have time to listen to them. I read Ult's reviews and they sound pretty positive. I'll give 'em a shot. I'll shoot you a pm tonight.

return to heaven denied is ok but they lost me completely. They just got worse and worse with each subsequent release...

Yea Return to Heaven Denied is probably the best album they made. The others are so so. They changed their sound a lot over the years as well. Return to Heaven sort of reminds me of Dream Theaters Images and Words sound wise. I like them I think they are a good band I just have to get used to their newer sound. Fabio Leone from Rhapsody used to be in this band as well on the first album. That one is good too. If you end up liking Labyrinth then you might like Vision Divine as well since the guitarist who started Labyrinth is in it and ended up leaving Labyrinth to do Vision Divine full time. Again Fabio Leone was on their first 2 albums then they got a new singer but he left recently and supposedly Fabio is back with them. Great vocalist!

Haha, it's all good man, just joshin' ya. For what it's worth, I'd recommend RETURN TO HEAVEN DENIED over the other Labyrinth (S/T) on my trade list, but whatever floats yer boat.

So, MG... how'd you end up liking the Labyrinth album?

Since you didn't come begging for the other CD of theirs I have on my trade list, I'm guessin' you didn't dig it much?
